AML Striker

Striker is the continuation of AML's development of American-Made, Android-based mobile computers. A smaller, lighter version of our popular Scepter mobile computer, Striker delivers on affordability, durability and versatility that will take it into a wide variety of applications ranging from distribution, manufacturing, retail, and commercial deployments.

AML continues to design and build high performance, easy-to-use, and cost-effective barcode data collection products. Our goal is to provide sensible solutions for mission critical activities, to improve efficiency and productivity, and to make barcode data collection applications worry-free.

Defining Features

Striker is lightweight, compact and well-suited for all-day use. Despite its lean design, the 4" display provides for more viewing area than legacy devices that sported 3.5" displays. Striker also features a multi-touch capacitive display that allows for gesturing that today's users have grown accustomed to with their consumer devices. Like its big brother the Scepter, Striker also has an integrated dual-beam flashlight, a feature unique to AML mobile devices. The inclusion of a tactile keypad supports our position that while touchscreen data entry is fine for intermittent users, they are too error prone for applications that require considerable data entry for atypical data like part numbers and quantities.

Product Positioning

The Striker mobile computer represents the continued evolution of the AML product line towards more contemporary and intuitive platforms utilizing the Android operating system. The compact yet durable design, complemented by an affordable price, makes it ideal for a wide variety of uses. Light manufacturing, warehouse/distribution and back-office retail are ideal target applications. Striker should be the device of choice for any data collection application where barcode scanning occurs at a high rate of frequency, where a tactile keypad is desirable, and where the environment requires the deployment of a rugged device.

Striker is not intended to be a competitive model against "smart phone-like" or "PDA-like" models that offer no keypad and no pistol grip handles. Those devices are intended for applications with a lower duty cycle of barcode scanning in less harsh environments.

Hygiene-minded users will also appreciate the fact that Striker's external parts are manufactured with FDA-approved antimicrobial plastic. The body, handle, and trigger buttons are all comprised of this plastic. Not only does Striker meet high durability standards, but has also been developed with new safety measures in mind.

Software Striker comes preloaded with Ivanti's Velocity terminal emulation software powered by Wavelink. The software will run in demo mode until activated with a license which is sold separately. For users that are more familiar with telnet connections to legacy systems, Striker is preloaded with a basic, text-based terminal emulation client specifically for VT220 applications. This TE client from Glink is already licensed and ready to use. Also, it is important to note that Striker3 is only available with Android, and therefore it will not run software applications that were specifically written for Windows.

  • Use Striker Barcode Service to configure the behavior of the barcode scanner. Enable or disable symbologies, add prefixes or suffixes, change the "good read" sound, or enable AML's "ScreenFlash" technique to provide visual confirmation of good scans or bad reads.
  • The AML Lockdown Utility restricts access to specific Striker functionality. Administrators can make available only specific applications necessary to the user.
  • Use the Striker Cloning App to quickly and securely configure multiple devices for the same installation environment. Cloning may be performed with a cradle and a PC, or a cradle and a USB drive.
  • Installing firmware updates are a breeze using Striker's Over-The-Air update capability. Admins or Users can quickly check for available firmware updates, and then choose to download and install, or pass and wait for future updates.

In addition to the built-in utilities, Striker will also run our popular DC Suite software for simple batch data collection applications. The software comes with seven pre-written applications that will cover the most common barcode data capture tasks, like cycle counting. Users can also download our DC Console software and easily create their own DC Suite applications, tailored to their needs. Once the data is collected, it can be uploaded to a PC using USB or a Wi-Fi connection. Both DC Suite and DC Console are available free-of-charge to Striker users
