ESD-Safe Barcode Scanners

Electrostatic Discharge Safe Scanners

Certain work environments demand a static-free zone to protect production and workers. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) maintains a list of requirements that must be met for scanners to be designated electrostatic discharge (ESD) safe. Barcode Factory provides several scanner models that meet these requirements.

What is ESD?

ESD is a swift discharge of electricity between two differently charged objects. When two objects have different numbers of electrons, the exchange creates a large electromagnetic field buildup, resulting in ESD. Certain electronic devices are vulnerable to ESD, even at low voltages. For example, a hard drive is susceptible to just ten volts. Integrated circuits (IC) are also prone to ESD and may be permanently damaged by high-volt currents.

ESD-Safe Scanners

ESD-safe scanners are specially designed to eliminate static buildup and prevent ESD. They're ideal for static-sensitive environments and areas where static buildup is common.

ESD Scanner Features
  • Coated with conductive materials engineered to eliminate the buildup of dangerous static charge on the scanner
  • Wired internally to quickly drain the charge from any other object it comes into contact with
  • Follows EPA requirements (ESD Protected Area)
  • Available in corded or cordless versions. Bases are also coated in cordless versions

We offer several ESD scanners models that are safe for close-proximity scanning, allowing the tracking of electronic components at each stage of production without risk of ESD.
